A warm and creative space for every project, big or small

The comfort of working at home.

The Precursor studio is an inviting place for creative professionals. Unlike most modern studios there is lots of ambient and natural light giving the space a warm feeling which is all you need to get started…

Whether you want to record your next hit single, relax on the couch while I mix your EP, or learn about synthesis and music production. I got you covered. Meanwhile my cats will entertain you and make sure you are cared for.

About the Precursor Studio

My name is Quirijn Verhoog. I’m a producer, sound designer and mixing engineer operating from Rotterdam, the Netherlands. I’ve always been a creative person and music has been my creative outlet since as long as I can remember.

At age 5 I started playing the acoustic guitar and I was clasically trained for 7 years before I picked up an electric guitar for the first time. I played in bands and recorded guitar music as a teenager and discovered various ways to do so on the way. After my first trials with software like Propellorhead’s Reason and Cool Edit Pro I switched to Ableton and began to get more serious about music. Later I purchased my first synthesizer and the rest is history!

How I create sounds

I am very passionate about sound and that lead me to being really critical about the way that my music sounds. At the same time I am curious to experiment and learn. During my Master’s in Bio-Pharmaceutical Sciences I learned about the benefits of being thourough and precise. Since then, I’ve applied this way of thinking to my music resulting in clean and radio-ready mixes. Being comfortable with lab equipment also gave me the idea to start with modular synthesis which is now a huge part of my sound palette. This allowed me to be creative in ways that I could not begin to imagine before. These days I’m using a variety of hardware and software to create interesting sounds.

The Precursor studio is home to a pair of 2.5-way nearfield monitors from Eve Audio and is treated with hand-made triple layered acoustic panels, as well as four massive wooden bass traps. Everything is set up to be plug-and-play and you can route the cables every which way. There is also a second, home listening environment with a pair of 3.5-way Audiovector speakers powered by a NAD amplifier.

You can find a list of all the equipment I use below.
